J3 – Trichocereus Peruvianus or Bridgesii

There is not really much known about the J3. Most people that grow them label them “Peruvianus”. Nonetheless, the plant looks like it could also have Bridgesii relatives. Unfortunately, I am not able to watch this clone and a picture can sometimes be misleading. Those three pics were donated by Stillman and they are the only pics that I have. All the J clones are pretty rare and there only are a few of them in cultivation.

Where to buy seeds or plants of the J3 clone? Well, I have no idea. The J3 is an Australian clone that was used for hybrid breeding by a handful of growers, but it´s probably literally just a handful and currently, there are no people who are offering some. If you have pics of this type or want to give away seeds or cuttings, please let us know because I´d love to see more pics of this type to find out more about the parentage.

If I would have to guess, I´d say that this is a Hybrid between Trichocereus Bridgesii and Trichocereus Peruvianus. And I really hate to “guess” the parents of a plant because it´s usually not possible. But this plant looks a lot like a Bridgesii and I am pretty confident that somewhere in the J3´s Family tree can a Bridgesii be found. But it doesn´t look like a pure Bridgesii either, what makes this a really interesting plant.

The following pics show hybrids in which the J3 was used as a father.

Super pedro x j3 (2)

SUPER PEDRO x J3. Though the J3 was the father here, the plant looks more like the J3 than the Super pedro. Definitely an interesting plant.

Pach x J3 (1)

This plant shows Trichocereus Pachanoi x J3 and looks very much like the original J3 too. Despite the fact that plants oftenly look more like the mother. However, it seems to have very dominant genes.
