The Peruvianus clone SHARXX BLUE is a shortspined Peruvianus clone that was named after the SAB Member Sharxx. It originated from the well known DAWSONS cactus collection and was brought and named by the SAB member PD.

It probably is some kind of Matucana Peruvianus, much like the ICARO DNA type, the Los Gentiles or the Matucana Peruvianus that I have in stock here.

The plants are extremely blue and glaucous. Overall, this type of Trichocereus is one of my all-time favorite plants and it´s a very popular clone among Trichocereus breeders.

There definitely are plants that are similar and which are not genetically identical. Like I said before, there is a large number of various collection sites in Matucana and most of them are similar to the SHARXX BLUE.

This clone is sometimes available from Australian growers that gift or trade away cuttings every now and then. If you are interested in a SHARXX BLUE cutting, you might try to make a posting at the SAB forum. There also are growers that use it to produce Trichocereus hybrids. This year was the first year that Misplant offered some crosses that involved the SHARXX BLUE clone. It is also available from Trichocereus.com.au, who donated the pics below. 31

The N1 clone comes from our friend Nitrogen. The pics were all provided by Nitrogen and he used this plant in numerous cross. It is a Trichocereus bridgesii with a massive spination and beautiful golden/orange spines.

The plants I saw have 6 ribs and 3 – 5 long and sharp spines that you really don´t want to get too close to. I am still trying to get flower pics of the N1 and I´ll update this post as soon as I am able to get some. This clone has a much more massive appearance than many other plants with Tr. bridgesii genetics.

LC002 – Trichocereus bridgesii

This plant is named after a member of the NOOK or SHOOMERY forum called Liberty Caps, who spread seeds involving LC001 and LC002 many years ago. All the plants grown from those crosses are NOT clones, but hybrids between Tr. pachanoi x Tr. bridgesii (LC001) and Trichocereus bridgesii x Tr. pachanoi (LC002).

Please note that this was quite a while ago and I assume it must have been around 2007 or 2008 when Liberty Caps gave away his seeds.

Though the LC002 mother plant looks highly unusual, it´s most likely a Tr. bridgesii! But I didn´t find so many pics myself; so please contact me if you happen to have pics of any of those hybrids.

I received some seeds back in 2008 or 2009, but was not able to get them to germinate because it´s been a while since they were traded around. On the internet, there only is very little information to be found about LC001 and LC002 and almost any source I found just talks about germinated some of this LC001 Trichocereus pachanoi x Trichocereus bridgesii and LC002 Trichocereus bridgesii x Tr. pachanoi seed.

This plant was grown by a SAB member in Australia and it´s very possible that offspring from the same cross looks a little bit different. So technically, this is not a clone but one of the plants that grew from the seed labeled LC002.

This plant comes from a SAB member called Nitrogen. He earned himself a great reputation by producing some of the most kickass San Pedro hybrids in the past 10 years. Some of his mother plants are the TPM, the TPC or the TPQC.

The TPM constantly switches between monstrose and non-monstrose growth, what gives it a truly unique look. This type of TPM is one of a kind, as it is known to pass down the monstrose gene to its F1 offspring. From all the seeds I´ve grown, I had a 50% mutation rate. And since it is rare that mutants produce mutant offspring, it´s definitely an amazing plant.

Nitrogen produced numerous hybrids with this plant, of which I´ll show some of them here.

CLONE TWO - (Trichocereus / Echinopsis) clone

CLONE TWO - (Trichocereus / Echinopsis) clone 

CLONE TWO is another cool clone that was sourced by the European breeder Aplantis. It looks very much like CLONE ONE and depending on the conditions it is grown in, it might really hard to keep the two apart. CLONE TWO comes from Huaraz, which is the home of many beautiful Pachanoi clones, such as the so-called Trichocereus Huarazensis. The plant was located in front of a Restaurant and when the owner wanted to remove it, Ogun jumped on the opportunity to get some cuts for the grower Community. Aplantis called it „a little bit more feminine“ than CLONE ONE. This one ist not as bright green as CLONE ONE and has a slight touch of gray. The areoles are more hairy than the ones on CLONE 1 and has very strong V-notches above the areoles. The offshoots usually have 6 – 7 ribs and tend to have a green/blue or glaucous color. The plants I´ve seen were a little bit fatter than the ones from CLONE ONE, but that also depends on the environment and it´ll take a few years to say more about the growth habits of this beautiful plant.

This interesting plant is a Trichocereus bridgesii clone that was originally sourced by the Australian SAB member Sir Jeans, who gave this clone to a handful of people. By sharing this clone over the course of various years, it was distributed into the collections of many people.

Definitely an interesting plant with long spines and a very glaucous Epidermis.  It´s not really completely untypical for a Tr. bridgesii, but it´s definitely one of the most impressive ones out there!

BRUCE is a beautiful Trichocereus bridgesii with very broad ribs and a funny spination. Just like many other, BRUCE is a hybrid of Australian origin. Because of the broad ribs, this plant tends to have relatively few ribs. Most plants I´ve seen had between 4 and 6 ribs. The mother plant goes back to the SAB member BLACKDRAGON, who had a giant monster of this amazing plant growing in his garden. He also managed to get it to flower and the flower was relatively typical for a Tr. bridgesii.

BRUCE is said to be somewhat related to the Tr. bridgesii clone EILEEN, that was growing in front of reshroomED´s house. Personally, I would not be surprised if both were grown from similar or the same seed lots. But that´s just speculation and I have yet to hear more detailed information on the background of BRUCE. The plant is also known to show a „melting“ look from time to time, which indicates that this is (at least partially) mutated somehow. BRUCE comes from South Australia and is also very similar to the clone MBN95/ SUPER BRIDGE, which more or less lost as I do not know of anyone who has that  plant with an intact label.

Where to buy cuttings or seeds of BRUCE (Trichocereus bridgesii)?

BRUCE is one of the rarer hybrids from Australia and I know of no breeder that is currently breeding with it. You might try to make a posting at the SAB forum, cactusforum.org or in our Trichocereus Facebook Group!

The Bogan clone has 0ne of the funniest backgrounds of all the clones that are known in the community. It all goes back to the year 2006, when the SAB Member DuG discovered a very cool type of (back then, suspected Trichocereus macrogonus) growing in front of a house. He initially asked for a cutting (which he was lucky enough to get) and next time he got there, he realized that the large motherplants had been hacked down by the „bogan“ homeowners. And not only had they hacked them down, but they also tried to burn them. He immediately asked if he could take them with him and they were more than happy to get rid of them…because…you know, cacti don´t burn so well. So far, I havent seen a flower pic but I will certainly update this page as soon as I get some. The plants usually have a very bright green epidermis and look very much like the Ecuadorian types. On the earlier pics, they looked a lot more like a peruvianus, but this clone shows it´s genetics on the young growth. But for a pachanoi, it can get very long spines and it definitely is a very cool plant!

Where to buy seeds or plants: Well, I am currently not aware of any real sources for this plant, but I hope to get some seeds sometime soon.. You can ask the SAB customer service to find out if they have any of them in stock. But apart from that, I´d make a posting at SAB or our Trichocereus Facebook Group and ask about them. Because DuG gave away quite a few of them and there still are breeders who have them in their collection.

Parents: unknown. The plant looks very much like an Ecuadorian type of Trichocereus Pachanoi though.

Species: Trichocereus Pachanoi or something between Pachanoi & Peruvianus

Origin of the Plant: The ZEUS clone is a rare clone that´s been slowly introduced into the collections of some SAB members. It´s originally from Egypt and was brought into circulation by the SAB member Philocacti. Approximately 14 years ago, the ZEUS clone was one of the very few Trichocereus species that Philocacti was able to find in Egypt. There aren´t many Trichocereus species around there and this was one of the four Trichocereus species that he came across. The other ones were a Trichocereus taquimbalensis, a Trichocereus Cuzcoensis and a Melted wax version of Trichocereus bridgesii.

In the past years, Philocacti sent a few cuttings to people overseas and now there is a good number of breeders who are actively breeding with it. Though there currently are only very few cuttings available, it´s very likely that we´ll see this plant a lot more in the near future. If you are interested in the ZEUS Trichocereus clone, I´d suggest you to make a posting on the SAB forum or our Trichocereus Facebook Group! You can also try to ask the member Philocacti directly, though I do not know if he currently has any more of them available. There currently are no seeds available of this type, but I will try to get some as soon as anyone of our breeders succeeds in crossing it with some other clones.

Reason for naming the Clone: The ZEUS clone was named after Philocacti´s wonderful dog, who lived with him for 13 years and alwas was his best friend & safe keeper in very hard times. And when I say “hard times”, I really mean that. I guess it´s safe to say that without the emotional support of his dog, Philo might not be here today. I am usually pretty hesistant to name clones, but in this case I feel like it´s totally appropiate to do so because there is a lot of personal history attached to the name. In addition, the plant is a very recognizable Ecuadorian Pachanoi that deserves to be named. Well yeah, I really hope that this clone will become a very widespread one, because there is a lot of positive karma attached to it.

The Zeus clone has some very distinct V-Notches. The color of it´s epidermis changes between a dark green to a very glaucous blue. It usually has very short spines and the older growth can be entirely spiness. I´ll add more info about the measurements as soon as we were able to measure the spines, the distance between the areoles, the diameter of the areoles and the number of spines per areole.

I currently do not know how the flower looks but I´ll add that info later too.
