ICARO DNA (Trichocereus peruvianus)

ICARO DNA (Trichocereus peruvianus)

The ICARO DNA is not actually a clone but a seller who is very well know for it´s high quality Trichocereus seeds. The plants grow into amazingly dark to blue-green colored columns with strong spines. Sometimes, those spines are also dark brown colored and are among the most beautiful Trichocereus types I know. Personally, it´s definitely one of my all-time favorite cacti, simply based on the impressing look.

ICARO DNA sold a lot of seeds of this type in the past, which is why there is a large genetic variety available on the market. There also are certain clones that most likely were sourced from ICARO, such as the SHARXX BLUE or MAYBE the Rosei 2.

Apart from seedgrown material, there also is a relatively common clone that´s been traded around by people of the Trichocereus community, but the larger number of seedgrown plants make a differentiation hard.

I do have quite a few pics of this interesting type and I´ll post further updates about it as soon as I get more pics. Those been around for at least ten years now.

Plants that look like this were oftenly labeled as Trichocereus macrogonus and chances are that you bought some of these labeled as such. Their cold hardiness and soil requirements are pretty much identical to the ones from other Tr. peruvianus.

The ones in these pics were grown in Australia, where this type is a bit more common than in Europe. If you are looking for one, just send me a message at EG[ät]trichocereus.net or you could try making a post in our Trichocereus Facebook group where it shows up every now and then as well.

JEANS Trichocereus bridgesii zed420

This interesting plant is a Trichocereus bridgesii clone that was originally sourced by the Australian SAB member Sir Jeans, who gave this clone to a handful of people. By sharing this clone over the course of various years, it was distributed into the collections of many people.

This picture was posted by Sir Jeans in 2012. It shows his original mother plant, which looks like a very spiny plant that almost looks like a Tr. cuzcoensis. Copyright: Sir Jeans

Definitely an interesting plant with long spines and a very glaucous Epidermis.  It´s not really completely untypical for a Tr. bridgesii, but it´s definitely one of the most impressive ones out there!

Chemical Shaman´s D*ck (Trichocereus bridgesii)

Chemical Shaman´s D*ck (Trichocereus bridgesii) (UPDATE DEC 2015)

NO, that is not supposed to read „DUCK“. 😉

Chemical Shamans D*ck aka CSD is a new Clone that was introduced by SAB Member Ferret, who brought it into circulation in honor of the Member Chemical Shaman, who unfortunately passed away.

According to Ferret, the Clone was grown from a batch of Trichocereus bridgesii Seed, which were provided by the NOOK Member BEEKER.

The Clones Characteristics are a very stunted, almost monstrous Look with a very unique Spination, which is very unlike other Trichocereus bridgesii. Besides, if seen from above, the Plant has a Look that reminds of a Lophophora williamsii, which is WAY COOl!

At this point, we couldn´t observe a flower yet, but will certainly add Flower Pics as soon as we get some.

The copyright on all those pics belongs to SAM, who donated those pics for the database!

Bruce - Trichocereus bridgesii

Bruce – Trichocereus bridgesii

BRUCE is a beautiful Trichocereus bridgesii with very broad ribs and a funny spination. Just like many other, BRUCE is a hybrid of Australian origin. Because of the broad ribs, this plant tends to have relatively few ribs. Most plants I´ve seen had between 4 and 6 ribs. The mother plant goes back to the SAB member BLACKDRAGON, who had a giant monster of this amazing plant growing in his garden. He also managed to get it to flower and the flower was relatively typical for a Tr. bridgesii.

BRUCE is said to be somewhat related to the Tr. bridgesii clone EILEEN, that was growing in front of reshroomED´s house. Personally, I would not be surprised if both were grown from similar or the same seed lots. But that´s just speculation and I have yet to hear more detailed information on the background of BRUCE. The plant is also known to show a „melting“ look from time to time, which indicates that this is (at least partially) mutated somehow. BRUCE comes from South Australia and is also very similar to the clone MBN95/ SUPER BRIDGE, which more or less lost as I do not know of anyone who has that  plant with an intact label.

Where to buy cuttings or seeds of BRUCE (Trichocereus bridgesii)?

BRUCE is one of the rarer hybrids from Australia and I know of no breeder that is currently breeding with it. You might try to make a posting at the SAB forum, cactusforum.org or in our Trichocereus Facebook Group!

Trichocereus pachanoi BOGAN

Trichocereus pachanoi BOGAN

The Bogan clone has 0ne of the funniest backgrounds of all the clones that are known in the community. It all goes back to the year 2006, when the SAB Member DuG discovered a very cool type of (back then, suspected Trichocereus macrogonus) growing in front of a house. He initially asked for a cutting (which he was lucky enough to get) and next time he got there, he realized that the large motherplants had been hacked down by the „bogan“ homeowners. And not only had they hacked them down, but they also tried to burn them. He immediately asked if he could take them with him and they were more than happy to get rid of them…because…you know, cacti don´t burn so well. Here is DuG´s original picture on SAB just to show you how they were looking back then.

Copyright DuG, have a look at the complete Thread on SAB here!

Well yeah, and the plant was passed down from DuG to many other SAB members, of which some of them still grow them today. Copyright Prier.

So far, I havent seen a flower pic but I will certainly update this page as soon as I get some. The plants usually have a very bright green epidermis and look very much like the Ecuadorian types. On the earlier pics, they looked a lot more like a peruvianus, but this clone shows it´s genetics on the young growth. But for a pachanoi, it can get very long spines and it definitely is a very cool plant!

Where to buy seeds or plants: Well, I am currently not aware of any real sources for this plant, but I hope to get some seeds sometime soon.. You can ask the SAB customer service to find out if they have any of them in stock. But apart from that, I´d make a posting at SAB or our Trichocereus Facebook Group and ask about them. Because DuG gave away quite a few of them and there still are breeders who have them in their collection.

Lumberjack (Trichocereus bridgesii)

Trichocereus Lumberjack Nitrogen 2

Trichocereus Lumberjack Nitrogen

Pics: NITROGEN

Trichocereus Lumberjack Nitrogen 3

The LUMBERJACK clone or LUMBERJACKUS is a rare and sought after Trichocereus hybrid. Its actually a Trichocereus bridgesii with very distinct and distinct traits. It has a very typical double-pair spination and usually grows into a very fat plant that flowers abundantly.

The plant was originally found in a Lumberjack store in Sacramento, California. It is believed to be a hybrid between Trichocereus bridgesii and Trichocereus peruvianus. But it´s also possible that this is actually a pure botanical Trichocereus bridgesii, without any other species involved. Plants in nature can look quite distinctly and unfortunately it´s not possible to guess the parents of a certain plant.

The LUMBERJACK clone is really rare and the only grower I know of that is selling seed or cuttings is misplant, who uses his mother plant to make multiple crosses per year.

The plant should be treated just like every other Trichocereus bridgesii and is a very hardy plant.

Those pics are from Misplant´s mother plants. Copyright: Misplant.net. You can buy seeds of the Lumberjack clone on Misplant´s homepage!

Psycho0 - Trichocereus Bridgesii

Psycho0 – Trichocereus Bridgesii

T. bridgesii

The clone PSYCHO0 (spoken: psychonaut) is a clone that was dedicated to the same-named SAB member, who unfortunately died at a very young age. It has always been a very popular clone that was given to many members on SAB. It´s a clone that became very common amongst the Cactus community and I am very happy that it is responsible for people remembering him ever since. Almost every year, people make a posting on his birthday to remember him.

The PSYCHO0 is a Trichocereus Bridgesii with long, strong spines that are yellow in color. The plants usually have three very strong spines, that look pretty unique, though it can sometimes look like a more typical Trichocereus Bridgesii.

Where to buy seeds or plants: The Psycho0 and it´s hybrids are mostly available through Australian collectors, though some of them rarely show up on platforms like Ebay. Whenever they do, prices can go very high and it´s definitely one of the most sought after clones around. Several breeders offer crosses with the Psycho0 every year through the SAB homepage or the Trichocereus Facebook group. If you are after this plant, you can make a posting in the group and depending on your location and the import conditions, someone usually has some available.
